Our Own Handball Association, Inc Citywide Tournament
Thank you for wanting to learn about this citywide event. Our Own Handball Association, Inc is a Non-profit 501(c) 4, IRS recognized, corporation that markets, advertises and promotes the sport of handball. Throughout the years, big blue handball had been played more as a recreational sport. With the recent decline in crime, along with a higher running economy, the city has added millions of dollars to the parks department budget to rebuild many of these current New York City parks that you see everyday. Being that O.O.H.A. has the knowledge of the best players and the ways to promote the sport, we have taken advantage of these happenings by making sponsored tournament events for all of the city to enjoy.
Believe it or not, you can also become a part of what we are about. What is happening now is the linking of all parks in New York City to find out all the players that make up this awesome sport. With the help of other associations and the parks department, that has now become a possibility. On June 17th and 18th, 2000, there was an entire citywide tournament consisting of all 5 boroughs in New York City. OOHA had wanted this to happen in 1999, but a tournament of this magnatude needed to be done the right way and be planned properly. After convincing the City to have the tournament, handball can now start to grow into so much more. That same tournament will happen again June 9-10th 2001 using 8 different parks within 5 boroughs. The tournament will had a free entry to all that pre-registered and there where prizes and trophies given out along with T-shirts. Come June 30-July1st 2001, OOHA will be hosting it's very own citywide tournament consisting of any park that wants to play. The amount of players at each park is not the issue. 10 people at 10 parks equals 100 players so every small park counts. The key is to get everyone involved at each park and then combine the funds for a great first prize and full citywide play the next day. You can run your tournament and send us your winners the next day or have one of our staff come to your park and run the tournament for you. We have the database to make handball a part of any community. Entry Fee will be $25 per player. Duck doubles players can play any 2 events. OOHA has set the tone for your handball enjoyment. So why don't you join us, sponsor us, become a member!
